Completion of the first phase of the Tender

The Press and Public Relations Office of the Ministry of PEHODE issued the following announcement:

The largest transport infrastructure project, the Athens Metro, will be further extended towards Aghia Varvara, Korydallos, Nikaia, Mianiatika and Piraeus, with 7 new Stations and 8,2 km of underground line. This project constitutes a major investment amounting to 730,000,000 euros and it it will relieve neglected areas of Attica basin which are particularly downgraded in terms of transport during the last decades.

The first phase of the Tender has been completed today, all the bidders who had expressed interest have been preselected and they will be subsequently invited to study and submit a Financial Offer for the Project:

  • ΑΕGΕΚ  – IMPREGILO – SELI – ANSALDO
  • ΑΚΤOR – SIEMENS – VINCI
  • MICHANIKIPANTECHNIKI – SC SOARES DA COSTA – ZAGOPE – CONSTRUTORA DO TAMEGA
  • ΤΕRΝΑ – GHELLA

The second phase of the Tender will commence in autumn, since the Ministry of PEHODE, Mr. George Soufliasaccepted all the objections raised by His Reverence the Metropolitan Bishop of Pireaus District Seraphim with regard to the disturbance caused to the Home for Aged People of Piraeus District during the construction phase of the project and the modification of the technical solution of the terminal station of the Line at Evangelistria is currently under consideration.

The Tender is provided for to be completed early 2008 (provided that there will be no objections, appeals raised by the technical companies participating in the tender) and immediately afterwards the construction of the further extension of the Athens Metro Line 3 will commence.

Upon commissioning of the said extension, Line 3 will be 50 km long; Piraeus will be its starting point and the Airport its terminal station.
